Course Description:
There is a gap in knowledge of the root causes of most sharps injuries in the healthcare field. Sharps injuries are still a risk for nurses, even when precautions are taken. The occupational health nurse has an opportunity to help here in regards to education on techniques and safety behaviors. The goal is to reduce occurrences of sharps injuries.
Learner Outcomes:
Upon completion of this journal CNE module, the learner will be able to
1. Identify root causes and risks of sharps injuries in Registered Nurses (RNs) in a large urban hospital system.
2. Describe which RNs appeared to be at the highest risk for sharps injuries.
3. List possible interventions to reduce sharps injuries in this population.
